Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can volunteer?

Anyone aged 14 and older who is passionate about the sports offered by Able Athletics can volunteer. It's essential that our volunteers embody maturity, respect, and responsibility. Additionally, they must successfully complete mandatory onboarding training before interacting with our team of athletes. This approach ensures that our volunteers are well-prepared to share their love for the sport with the disability community in a supportive and effective manner.

  • What ages are your athletes?

We believe our programming provides a safe space for individuals of all ages to work on socialization, executive functioning and gross and fine motor skills. Due to shared space and safety concerns, ages 5+ are welcome to participate.

  • Does my child need to know how to play the sport?

No. Our programming is designed to meet every child at their unique developmental stage. Our coaches and volunteers are guided by our occupational and physical therapists to ensure every athlete is met with the appropriate adaptations and support.

  • What if my child struggles to remain engaged?

Although we make an effort to prepare our volunteers to be dynamic with their approach sometimes the athletes just want to run around the field, or just sit in the goal… the whole session… and that’s ok. Our volunteers will support your athlete throughout the session, however they choose to engage.

  • What qualifies your team to work with this special group of athletes?

What makes our programming unique to the adaptive sport world is our collaboration with therapists, educators, healthcare professionals and professional coaches. thoughtful consideration is given to every athlete’s unique abilities, every session.

  • Do I need to buy equipment?

No. Thanks to the generous donations from our supporters, we are able to provide equipment to every athlete, for every session.
